Mobility Guide

Move easily through Cali using public transport, walking areas and mobile apps.

MIO – Integrated Transport System

Cali’s main public transport system, with buses, articulated routes and cable car lines. Requires a rechargeable card to use.

What the MIO Is

The MIO (Masivo Integrado de Occidente) is Cali’s integrated mass-transit system. It operates articulated buses, standard buses, and complementary routes that connect most of the city. Its network is organized through trunk corridors, pre-trunk corridors, feeders, and express services, allowing travel across Cali without depending on informal transport.

MIO Card: Price and Where to Buy It

To access the MIO, passengers traditionally use the MIO smart card (contactless).
The cost of obtaining the card for 2025 is usually between 6,500 and 7,000 COP.
You can buy the card at MIO station ticket offices or authorized selling points.

Some groups may have special benefits or conditions depending on the program or social category.

Fare Cost (2026)

The fare for 2025 is 3,500 COP per trip.
Each entry to the system deducts one trip, regardless of how far you travel within the network.

Payment Methods: MIO Card and Debit/Credit Cards

Traditionally, users recharge the MIO card at authorized sales points, and the fare is deducted automatically when entering a station or bus.
However, the MIO now also accepts contactless debit and credit cards (Visa or Mastercard).

Passengers with a bank card that supports contactless payments can enter the system directly without the MIO card by tapping the bank card on the validator.

How to Use the MIO (Step-by-Step)

First

Buy the MIO card at a ticket booth or authorized selling point, or use a contactless debit/credit card.

Second

If using a MIO card, recharge it at ticket booths or recharge points.

Third

When entering a station or boarding a bus, tap your card on the validator. It will automatically deduct the fare.

Fourth

If using a MIO card, check your balance regularly to avoid running out of credit during a trip.

How to Read MIO Route Codes (E, T, A, P, Numbers, and Final Letters)

Each MIO route has a code consisting of a letter and two numbers, sometimes followed by an additional letter.
This code indicates the type of service and which major stations or corridors it connects

E Routes (Express)

The letter E means Express. These routes stop at fewer stations than regular trunk routes. They connect key parts of the city with faster service by skipping smaller stops. Example: E21 usually connects the north center south axis with fewer stops.

T Routes (Trunk)

The letter T means Trunk. These routes operate on the main corridors (Autopista, Calle 5, Calle 15, etc.) and make most or all stops along their path. Example: T31 travels from the northern corridor (Paso del Comercio) to the southern corridor (Universidades).

A Routes (Feeders)

The letter A means Feeder. These routes connect neighborhoods to major stations or integration points. They do not run along the main trunk corridors. Example: A13A serves neighborhoods in zone 13 (east area), feeding nearby stations.

P Routes (Pre-Trunk)

The letter P means Pre-trunk. These routes connect neighborhoods or secondary avenues with major stations or trunk corridors. They act as intermediate services between trunk lines and feeders. Example: P21A connects residential sectors with the central and southern corridors.

Meaning of the Final Letter (A, B, C)

These variants usually differ in small segments: a different entry into a neighborhood, a slightly different loop, or a different start/end point.

MIO App

The official application for the MIO system is MIO App, developed to help passengers plan their trips and access real-time information about the system.

Route Planning

The app allows you to enter your origin and destination and provides recommended routes, including transfers, walking segments, and estimated travel times.

Real-Time Bus Tracking

Users can check the approximate location of buses, estimated arrival times, and service conditions in real time. This helps determine whether a bus is delayed, approaching, or currently at a station.

System Maps and Route Information

The app includes updated maps of the MIO network, showing stations, corridors, and the full list of routes with their descriptions, schedules, and variants.

Fare and Recharge Information

The app provides updated fare information, guidance on how to recharge the MIO card, and locations of authorized recharge points.

Service Alerts and Notifications

MIO App may send system-wide alerts such as temporary route detours, station closures, or special event modifications.

Availability

MIO App is available for download on major mobile platforms, including Android and iOS.
It is recommended for both residents and visitors because it provides the most current and practical information about navigating the MIO system.
